It is Sofia’s birthday once again and the memories of a past love catch up with her. But the young woman has decided to take a big step into a new year. The nostalgic ties with her home city of Buenos Aires and her relationship with her grandmother who now suffers from dementia, help Sofia gradually attain the independence that she yearns for.
Es el cumpleaños de Sofía una vez más y los recuerdos de un viejo amor se le vienen a la cabeza. Pero la joven ha decidido dar un gran paso en este nuevo año de vida. Los lazos nostálgicos Buenos Aires y su relación con su abuela que ahora padece de demencia ayudan a Sofia poco a poco a alcanzar la independencia que ella tanto anhela.

It is Sofia’s birthday once again and the memories of a past love catch up with her. But the young woman has decided to take a big step into a new year of life. The nostalgic ties with her home city of Buenos Aires and her relationship with her grandmother (who used to be an adventurous woman in the past but now suffers from dementia), will help her gradually attain the independence that she yearns for. Sofía will become the architect of the star written destiny of her solar return.
Es el cumpleaños de Sofía una vez más y los recuerdos de un viejo amor se le vienen a la cabeza. Pero la joven ha decidido dar un gran paso en este nuevo año de vida. Los lazos nostálgicos con Buenos Aires y su relación con su abuela (quien supo ser una mujer aventurera y que ahora padece de demencia) ayudan a Sofia a alcanzar gradualmente la independencia que ella tanto anhela. Sofía se convertirá en la arquitecta del destino que las estrellas de su revolución solar tienen guardadas para ella.
– Director´s Biography / Biografía del Director:
SANTIAGO RODRÍGUEZ DURÁN
Santiago Rodríguez Durán nació en Buenos Aires en 1992. Se graduó como realizador cinematográfico en la ENERC con el cortometraje Bauness (2014). Actualmente estudia Sociología en la Universidad de Buenos Aires.
He graduated in film directing from ENERC (National School of Film Experimentation and Production upon the authority of the Film and Audiovisual Arts Institute of Argentina) with the short film Bauness (2014) . He currently studies Sociology at the University of Buenos Aires.
– Director´s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
I have always been interested in urban stories, in characters that develop under the anonymity that allows living in a big city like Buenos Aires. Sofia is a young woman who decides to make a change in her routine and in her current life to find herself even if it means leaving behind certain relationships and farewell is difficult. We are all always looking for great answers and we have big questions: What should I be? What would have happened if…? Where do I want to be? What should I do? Some rely on psychoanalysis and others on astrology and we are blindly looking for the key to understanding. Understanding ourselves and understand others. We wanted to portray a story of overcoming. Memory is very particular. Sofia accompanies her grandmother thru her illness (a character played by an actress who in real life suffers from dementia) and is confronted with the idea of how vulnerable we are. Brigitte used to be an adventurous and independent woman who did not need a man by her side and was good enough by herself. But now that are old, and those memories are fading away. Her illness has forced her to withdraw into herself and never leave the house. That is why we must take advantage of the time we have in our hands. Using simple means of production and with an extremely small team we decided to tell a little story and to work with a skeleton of actions and then improvise with the actors to capture the atmospheres in the most natural way possible. That’s how we try to portray the decisive moments in the process of transformation of a young woman towards her independence and towards a horizon of answers to old questions and with brand new questions ahead.
Siempre me interesaron las historias urbanas y los personajes que se desenvuelven bajo el anonimato que permite el vivir en una gran ciudad como Buenos Aires. Sofía es una joven mujer que decide hacer un cambio en su rutina y en su vida actual para encontrarse con ella misma aunque esto signifique dejar atrás vínculos y la despedida sea difícil. Todos estamos buscando siempre grandes respuestas y tenemos grandes preguntas: Qué debería ser? Que habría pasado si…? A dónde quiero estar? Qué debería hacer? Algunos recurrimos al psicoanálisis y otros a la astrología y así vamos buscando a ciegas la clave para entender. Entenderse a uno mismo, entender a los demás. Quisimos retratar una historia de superación. La memoria es algo muy particular. Sofía acompaña a su abuela en su enfermedad (interpretada por una actriz que en la vida real padece demencia) y se confronta con la idea de lo vulnerable que somos. Brígida solía ser aventurera, una mujer independiente que no necesitaba de un hombre a su lado y se bastaba con ella misma. De eso solo quedan recuerdos, y esos recuerdos están desvaneciéndose. Su enfermedad la ha obligado a replegarse sobre sí misma y nunca salir de su casa. Es por eso que debemos aprovechar el tiempo que tenemos en nuestras manos. Usando medios de producción sencillos y un equipo sumamente reducido decidimos contar una historia pequeña y trabajar con un esqueleto de acciones y luego improvisar junto a los actores para poder captar las atmósferas de la manera lo más natural posible. Así intentamos retratar los momentos decisivos del proceso de transformación de una joven mujer hacia su independencia y hacia un horizonte que de respuestas a viejas preguntas y traiga nuevos interrogantes.
