When an AI humanoid’s proprietor passes away, she is released on a journey where she discovers what it means to feel emotion after encountering and befriending a special child.

Derek Franzese is a neurodivergent, American assistant director who has worked on dozens of films and TV shows, as well as hundreds of commercials. He moonlights as a director and writer, with his first dramatic short film screening at various festivals across the USA. Some of his directing work has been screened by numerous networks across the globe.
Derek Franzese es un asistente de dirección estadounidense neurodivergente que ha trabajado en docenas de películas y programas de televisión, así como en cientos de comerciales. También trabaja como director y escritor, y su primer cortometraje dramático se proyectó en varios festivales de Estados Unidos. Su trabajo de dirección ha sido proyectado por numerosas cadenas de todo el mundo.

- Director’s Statement:
While writing this film in 2018, there was a bit of timidity to allow myself to actually make this film so I paused and thought about what originally drew me to writing this idea. I thought about what I had learned from people that I had worked with in the past, what all I had learned from simply being around families and friends that had these special children. What I realized is that, in every experience I’ve had with those with learning differences, I learned more about the human condition and humanity than with years of experiences with societies less “stigmatized,” with those that “fit in.” I realized what I already knew and what actually drew me to this idea. When you strip down a human’s ego, you see the beauty of who we are. Kids can be incredibly honest and refreshing, and then you meet the kids who don’t even comprehend the very idea of filters. You meet the kids who have already learned that what society deems correct is silly. All of it. And if you let it, their soul speaks to yours. They remind you that life is actually beautiful. That humanity can actually be good. So I wrote and I reached out to friends with affected family. I showed the script to dozens of parents. I listened and I hope that what I created does some form of kindness to those that taught me so much more than one can express. So much of that initial fear ended when I met the kids during casting and filming and fell in love. I hope this film makes them as proud as they made me.
Mientras escribía esta película en 2018, sentí un poco de timidez al permitirme hacerla, así que hice una pausa y pensé en lo que originalmente me llevó a escribir esta idea. Pensé en todo lo que había aprendido de las personas con las que había trabajado en el pasado, en todo lo que había aprendido simplemente al estar rodeado de familias y amigos que tenían estos niños especiales. Lo que me di cuenta es que, en cada experiencia que he tenido con personas con dificultades de aprendizaje, aprendí más sobre la condición humana y la humanidad que en años de experiencias con sociedades menos “estigmatizadas”, con aquellas que “encajan”. Me di cuenta de lo que ya sabía y de lo que realmente me atrajo a esta idea. Cuando eliminas el ego humano, ves la belleza de quiénes somos. Los niños pueden ser increíblemente honestos y refrescantes, pero luego conoces a niños que ni siquiera comprenden la idea misma de los filtros. Conoces a niños que ya han aprendido que lo que la sociedad considera correcto es una tontería. Todo ello. Y si lo dejas, su alma le habla a la tuya. Te recuerdan que la vida es realmente hermosa. Que la humanidad realmente puede ser buena. Entonces escribí y me comuniqué con amigos que tenían familiares afectados. Mostré el guión a decenas de padres. Escuché y espero que lo que creé haga algún tipo de bondad hacia aquellos que me enseñaron mucho más de lo que uno puede expresar. Gran parte de ese miedo inicial terminó cuando conocí a los niños durante el casting y el rodaje y me enamoré. Espero que esta película los haga sentir tan orgullosos como me hicieron a mí.
