- Short Synopsis / Sinopsis Corta:
A closet-free home takes us into the almost impossible dream of creating the first public residence for LGBTI seniors in the world in Madrid. Through the testimonies of seven of its future residents, we will learn about the reality of this collective as they enter old age, their rejection, and their fear of going backward in who they are and what they have achieved, as people and as a community. We will witness the extraordinary adventure of this generation that went from prisons, concealment, and shame to turn Spain and Madrid into world referents of equality and respect. A dramatic comedy with solid characters, shocking, sometimes quirky, and sometimes revolutionary, but always fascinating; whose stories will make you laugh, cry and reflect on life, dignity, and coherence while the project of a residence for LGTBI seniors in Villaverde takes shape.
Un hogar sin armarios nos asoma al sueño casi imposible de crear la primera residencia pública para mayores LGBTI del mundo en Madrid. A través de los testimonios de sus futuros residentes conoceremos la realidad de este colectivo al adentrarse en la tercera edad, su rechazo y su miedo a retroceder en lo que son y lo que han conseguido, como personas y como comunidad. Asistiremos a la extraordinaria aventura de esa generación que pasó de las cárceles, la ocultación y la vergüenza a convertir España y Madrid en referentes mundiales de igualdad y respeto. Una comedia dramática con personajes sólidos, impactantes, a veces estrafalarios y a veces revolucionarios, pero siempre fascinantes; cuyas historias harán reír, llorar y reflexionar sobre la vida, la dignidad y la coherencia mientras va tomando forma el proyecto de residencia para mayores LGTBI de Villaverde.

A Closet-Free Home is the story of older people excluded by society, who, in the face of adversity, achieve their dream. That dream is not just the story of a residence, but the story of the FIRST public LGBT residence, a global symbol of integration and social progress. This story captivated me from the lack of empathy, the profound ignorance, and, even worse, the empty reflection of not having considered the realities of a community that screams louder every day to attain basic rights. The reality of older gay individuals is a reflection of our most homophobic convictions and the failure of diversity as a reality in modern society. Starting from the need to equalize rights, I find in these characters an activist movement, sometimes passive and sometimes active, fighting for a just cause, a cause that seems inherited from a more repressive era but that, thanks to much pain, has been slowly left behind. There is still a long way to go and wounds to heal. These individuals, like so many others, have suffered and continue to suffer for being different, as many other communities throughout our history have suffered due to intolerance, arrogance, and the audacity of mankind as a whole. As the director of this film, my mission is to give voice to those who have a message to share and to do so through a cinematic product that resonates, entertains, and moves the audience. A Home without Closets is a film without grand artifices that portrays the life journey of individuals who are a reflection of an injustice that is slowly being rectified. At its core, it is a symbol of respect, a compassionate look at a need: the construction of the world’s first public LGBT residence. By giving voice to our invisible elders, we, through cinema, perform an act of social justice in a world that turns its back on them.
Un Hogar sin Armarios, es la historia de personas mayores excluidas por la sociedad, que frente a la adversidad consiguen su sueño. Ese sueño no es la historia de una residencia, sino la historia de la PRIMERA residencia LGBT pública, un símbolo mundial de integración y progreso social. Esta historia me atrapó desde la falta de empatía, la ignorancia supina y peor aún, desde la reflexión vacía de no haber pensado en las realidades de un colectivo que grita cada día más por conseguir derechos básicos. La realidad de los mayores gays es un espejo de nuestras convicciones más homofóbicas y del fracaso de la diversidad como realidad de los pueblos en la era moderna. Partiendo de la necesidad de equiparar derechos, encuentro en estos personajes un movimiento activista, a veces pasivo y otras veces activo, que lucha por una causa justa, una causa que parece heredada de otra época más represora pero que gracias a mucho dolor ha ido quedando atrás a paso lento. Aún queda mucho que andar y heridas que curar. Estas y tantas personas sufrieron y sufren por ser diferentes, como tantos otros colectivos que a lo largo de nuestra historia han sufrido por la intolerancia, la arrogancia y la desfachatez del hombre en su conjunto. Como director de esta película, mi misión es dar voz a aquellos que tienen un mensaje que darnos, y hacerlo desde un producto cinematográfico que cale, que entretenga y que emocione. UN HOGAR SIN ARMARIOS es una película sin grandes artificios que muestra la trayectoria de vida de unas personas que son el reflejo de una injusticia que poco a poco se va solventando. Como pilar, un símbolo de respeto, una mirada de comprensión ante una necesidad: la construcción de la primera residencia LGTB pública del mundo. Si le damos voz a nuestros mayores que están invisibilizados, hacemos, a través del cine, un acto de justicia social en un mundo que les da la espalda.
