A young woman comes to a Mexican border town looking for a better life. She finds work in a maquiladora like so many other women her age. Today, she walks through a dream, unable to shake the feeling that she has lost something.
Una joven viene a un pueblo en la frontera, al norte de México buscando una vida mejor. Encuentra trabajo en una maquiladora como muchas otras jóvenes de su edad. Hoy, ella camina por un sueño, incapaz de sacudirse la sensación de haber perdido algo.

A young woman recounts the fairy tales her father told long ago. She also remembers how her mother fought to find a better life. She remembers coming to this Mexican border town, a place that promised a future. At least here, there is work to be found. She works in a border town factory. Her steady work gives her hope her mother never had. Here she has found some independence and hope. But she finds herself wandering through a dream. What has she lost and can she wake up?
Una joven recuerda los cuentos de hadas que su padre le contó hace mucho tiempo. Ella también recuerda como su madre luchó para encontrar una vida mejor. Ella recuerda venir a esta ciudad fronteriza, un lugar que prometía un futuro. Al menos aquí se puede encontrar trabajo. Ella trabaja como maquiladora en la frontera. Su trabajo constante le da la esperanza que su madre nunca tuvo. Aquí ella ha encontrado independencia y esperanza. Pero se encuentra caminando a través de un sueño. Qué es lo que ha perdido y podrá despertar?

JOSÉ LUIS SILVA ANDRADE
Jose Silva is a graphic artist and an independent animator. He is originally from Guanajuato, Mexico and currently works as a professor in the in Animation Department at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA in the US.
José Silva es un artista gráfico y un animador independiente. Es originario de Guanajuato, México y actualmente se desempeña como profesor en el Departamento de Animación en el Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA en los EU.
– Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
Sin Titulo aims to bring attention to the plight of a woman in Mexico and the world beyond. This film is a rotoscope animation from Jose Luis Silva. Silva, a graphic artist, and independent animator, has always explored his native Mexican culture through his art. In Sin Titulo, he asks questions about the darker side of Mexican culture and the treatment of women. The idea for the film began many years ago when Silva became aware of the rape and murder of women in the border town of Juarez, Mexico. Since 1993 hundreds of young women, mostly women who have come to Juarez to work in factories have been raped and murdered. The problem is not isolated to Juarez. Femicide, women being killed simply for being women, has reached epidemic proportions in Mexico and other Latin American countries and there seems to be no end to this problem in sight. As an artist, Silva takes a hard look at his native culture and asks viewers to do the same. Unfortunately, there seems to be no end to the problem in sight.
When I first began working on this short animated film, my focus was on the brutal murder of young women in Ciudad Juarez in Northern Mexico. From around 1994 to 2010, it is estimated that 250 women were murdered every year. In 2012, that number rose to 312. In present-day Femicide in Mexico has reached pandemic proportions. Femicide, the torture, and murder of women for being women, is not isolated to Ciudad Juarez. In 2014 in El Estado de Mexico, a state in central Mexico, 400 women and girls were reported missing and assumed to be dead in that year alone. In 2017, according to the National Human Rights Commission in Mexico (CNDH), 7 women were killed every day. However, Mexico is not alone, similar stories can be told about Honduras, Colombia, and Argentina, and although Latin America has the highest reported numbers of femicide, the problem extends throughout the world.
Sin Titulo tiene como objetivo llamar la atención sobre la difícil situación de las mujeres en Mexico y el mundo. Este corto es una animación en rotoscope de José Luis Silva. Silva, artista gráfico y animador independiente, siempre ha explorado su cultura natal como mexicano a través de su arte. En Sin Titulo, hace preguntas sobre el lado oscuro de la cultura mexicana y el trato a las mujeres. La idea del film comenzó hace muchos años cuando Silva se dio cuenta de la violación y el asesinato de mujeres en la ciudad fronteriza de Juárez, México. Desde 1993 cientos de mujeres jóvenes, en su mayoría mujeres que han venido a Juárez para trabajar en fábricas, han sido violadas y asesinadas. El problema no se limita a Ciudad Juárez. El femicidio, mujeres asesinadas simplemente por ser mujeres, ha alcanzado proporciones epidémicas en México y en otros países latinoamericanos y parece que el problema no tiene fin. Como artista, Silva analiza su cultura nativa y pide a los espectadores que hagan lo mismo. Lamentablemente, no parece haber un final para el problema a la vista.
Cuando comencé a trabajar en este corto animado, me enfoqué en los brutales asesinatos de mujeres jóvenes en Ciudad Juárez, en el norte de México.
