A young teenager is going through a hard phase because of his self-image and the external pressure of how he should be.
Un joven adolescente atraviesa una crisis por su auto-imagen y la presión externa sobre cómo debería ser.
– Synopsis / Sinopsis:
Ariel is a teenager who enjoys figure skating. Sometimes when he passes by the neighborhood football field, the boys who are playing make fun of him for being different. At school, he receives mockery and paper planes from his pals. One of those papers is the invitation to the prom party. He decides to assist. The night of the party, he is getting ready to go. Something triggers inside him and he makes a decision.
Ariel es un adolescente que disfruta mucho del patín artístico. Cuando a su casa pasa por una tienda de vestidos que encuentra bonitos. Si pasa por la cancha del barrio los chicos que juegan al fútbol lo insultan por su aspecto y su personalidad. En la escuela recibe bollos de papel por ser diferente. Uno de esos papeles es la invitación a la fiesta de egresados, a la cuál decide acudir. La noche de la graduación, se está preparando para ir. Algo se dispara en su interior y toma una decisión.

Both graphic designers and illustrators, Gaspar Aguirre (Universidad Nacional del Nordeste) and Román Sovrano (Universidad Nacional de Rosario) studied animation at the School for Animators of Rosario. “Broken Doll” is their first animated short film and they’re working on their second piece, “Saturn”.
Ambos diseñadores gráficos e ilustradores, Gaspar Aguirre (Universidad Nacional del Nordeste) y Román Sovrano (Universidad Nacional de Rosario) estudiaron animación en la Escuela para Animadores de Rosario. Muñeca Rota es su primer cortometraje animado y están trabajando en su segundo corto, Saturno.
– Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
There are many reasons that drove us to develop this project and lightened the need to capture this story on the screen: To make visible issues that don’t respond to a established norm is a great incentive; to narrate a reality that a lot of young people live but it is not well known and trying to understand or empathize with this perspective, often marginalized or discriminated; to show a complex process as the gender choice to a young age is; being able to distinguish and separate concepts like gender identity, gender expression, biological sex and sexual election; to put in evidence that despite the progress in terms of earned rights and all the information we have, there is still discrimination of the LGBTIQ collective. We could count many more issues to discuss our motivations, but what would gratify us the most is to know that this project can touch the heart of at least one person.
Hay muchas razones que nos llevaron a desarrollar este proyecto y dieron luz a la necesidad de capturar esta historia en la pantalla: Hacer visibles temas que no responden a una norma establecida es un gran incentivo; narrar una realidad que muchos jóvenes viven, pero no es tan conocida e intentar entender o empatizar con su perspectiva, a menudo marginados o discriminados; mostrar un proceso complejo como es la elección de género a una edad joven; poder distinguir y separar conceptos como identidad de género, expresión de género, sexo biológico y elección sexual; poner en evidencia que a pesar del progreso en cuanto a derechos ganados y toda la información que tenemos, todavía hay discriminación en el colectivo LGBTIQ. Podríamos contar más problemas para discutir sobre nuestras motivaciones, pero lo que nos gratificaría más es saber que este proyecto ha podido tocar el corazón de al menos una persona.
