Even the most insignificant animals have their survival instinct intact. But not El Malincho, this young bandit desperately seeks refuge in love.
Hasta los animales más insignificantes tienen intacto el instinto de supervivencia. Pero El Malincho no: este joven bandido busca desesperadamente refugio en el amor.

Argentino
Federico Luis is a filmmaker born in Buenos Aires in 1990. He studied Social Communication Sciences at the UBA (University of Buenos Aires). His short film «La Siesta» had its international premiere at the Official Short Film Competition of the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. It was also distinguished with an Honorable Mention in TIFF’s Shortcuts (Toronto Film Festival) and won best short film at the 2019 BAFICI (Buenos Aires Film Festival). In 2023, in Amsterdam, he received the award for best short film at IDFA with «At That Very Moment». “Stay Still or I Love You” was recognized as the best short film of the Mar Del Plata International Film Festival. During the same year, he shot his first feature film: «Simón de la Montaña», which is currently in post-production.
Federico Luis es un cineasta nacido en Buenos Aires en 1990. Es Licenciado en Ciencias de la Comunicación Social de la UBA (Universidad de Buenos Aires). Su cortometraje “La Siesta” tuvo su estreno internacional en la Competición Oficial de Cannes 2019, ganó mejor cortometraje en BAFICI y fue destacado con la mención de honor en el TIFF. En 2023, en Ámsterdam recibió el premio al mejor cortometraje de IDFA con “En El Mismísimo Momento”. Su cortometraje “Quédate quieto o te amo” fue reconocido como el mejor del Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar Del Plata. Durante el mismo año 2023, rodó su primer su primer largometraje: “Simón de la Montaña”, actualmente en post-producción.

- Director’s Statement / Declaraciones de los Directores:
This project attempts to portray a repressive reality towards a reified segment of young people in the peripheries of any province of Argentina, but more harshly in the capital city’s suburbs. This work celebrates life, youth, feelings, and a life much more emotionally complex than what reactionary discourses insist on reducing to a slum kid. These young people love each other, they get angry, they get together, they have the heart of any youngster. «Malincho», the short film, was shot in the neighborhood and with natural performers from the same area.
Este proyecto intenta retratar una actualidad represiva hacia un segmento cosificado de los jóvenes de las periferias de cualquier provincia de Argentina, pero más duramente en el conurbano. Esta obra celebra la vida, la juventud, los sentimientos y una vida mucho más compleja emocionalmente de lo que los discursos reaccionarios insisten en reducir a un pibe de barrio. Estos pibes se aman, se enojan, se juntan, tienen el corazón que cualquier pibe. El cortometraje fue rodado en el barrio y con intérpretes naturales, también originarios de la misma zona.
