Lara and Juliana are two actresses who go through the frustrations that any artist suffers, they accompany each other while in the middle of the road, Lara is presented with the possibility of whether or not to be a mother.

Synopsis / Sinopsis:

A short film that addresses contemporary issues about work and motherhood, and how to deal with the frustrations that appear when decisions do not depend on one. Lara and Juliana are two friends who accompany each other replacing actresses while they wait for them to be the first to be called, while they are going through Lara’s pregnancy, who is going to rethink the idea of motherhood.

Un cortometraje que aborda problemas contemporáneos acerca del trabajo y la maternidad, como lidiar con las frustraciones que aparecen cuando las decisiones no dependen de uno. Lara y Juliana son dos amigas que se acompañan reemplazando actrices mientras esperan que sean ellas las primeras en ser llamadas, mientras transitan el embarazo de Lara, quien se va a replantear la idea de la maternidad.

EMILIA HERBST

Emilia Herbst is an Argentine director, producer, and actress. Graduated from the Universidad del Cine, the Metropolitan School of Dramatic Art, and the New York Film Academy. She works in film and television. Her first short film premiered at Berlinale in 2022 and her second short film was awarded “Best Short Film” at BAFICI 2023.

Emilia Herbst es directora, productora y actriz Argentina. Egresada de la Escuela Metropolitana de Arte Dramático y de la Universidad del cine. Trabaja en cine y televisión. Su primer cortometraje tuvo su premiere mundial en Berlinale Generation y su segundo cortometraje obtuvo el premio al “Mejor Cortometraje en la 24ª edición de BAFICI.

Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:

Friendship, is a refuge in any situation, a sword for any battle. The hypothesis that runs through this work delves into the emotional transcendence that someone from this generation can achieve in search of their identity, immersed in a world where the concept of time is ineffable and fleeting, where minor unexpected twists can try to knock you down or distract you from your ultimate goal, pursuing your dreams. Creating this short film was a significant challenge for me. It’s the first project where I directed and acted in it in addition to writing to reinterpret a personal story. For me, this story narrates what friendship is, the passage of time, relationships, and the search for identity, who one is, when one is, and how. The core of this generation is guided by the construction and deconstruction of primary values when it comes to building bonds and establishing relationships. The idea of who one desires to be, and at the same time, who we believe we are, and how experience and memory work together for the formation of that inevitable present. I am aware of the values I want to convey with this short film and the strength that some bonds have with which you are capable of enduring any situation, such as the decision to be a mother or not. The mutual and collective support of a generation that fights despite all adversities to pursue the dream of something as difficult and unstable as the life of actors. I feel the need to expose the plasticity that formats have to dismantle moments and combine them to tell a new story. The distortion of a given image to create something different. Exposing all the vulnerabilities to which we subject ourselves to find the job stability that we so desire. I am a director, actress, screenwriter, and producer. Throughout my career, I delved into different areas to form myself. Currently, I am interested in working on original pieces with a team of sensitive and inspiring people. I develop cinematic projects for well-known production companies, and I am actively working in the audiovisual industry. In parallel, I am developing my projects as a director and screenwriter («Chasing the Common,» my first feature film). My goal has always been and will continue to be to carry out narratives with the intention of creating a sensitive and true cinematic piece, which also dares to reflect the voice of a generation and is a fertile ground for the formation of new local and international connections.

La amistad, un refugio en todas las circunstancias, una espada en cada batalla. La premisa que atraviesa esta obra profundiza en lo más hondo de lo emocional que alguien de esta generación puede alcanzar en busca de su identidad. Navegan en un mundo donde el concepto del tiempo es etéreo y efímero, donde pequeños giros inesperados pueden desafiar tu camino o desviarte de tus metas finales y la búsqueda de tus sueños. La creación de este cortometraje fue un desafío monumental para mí. Marcó el primer proyecto en el que, además de reinterpretar una historia personal por escrito, asumí los roles de directora y actriz. Para mí, esta narrativa encapsula mi comprensión de la amistad, el paso del tiempo, las relaciones y la búsqueda de la auto-identidad. Explora quiénes somos, cuándo lo somos y cómo nos convertimos en eso. En el núcleo de esta generación yace la construcción y deconstrucción de valores fundamentales a la hora de formar lazos y establecer relaciones. Gira en torno a la idea de a quién aspiramos a ser, al tiempo que reflexionamos sobre quiénes creemos ser. Además, indaga en cómo las experiencias y la memoria se entrelazan para dar forma al presente inevitable. Soy consciente de los valores que deseo transmitir con este cortometraje y la fortaleza de ciertos vínculos que te permiten superar cualquier situación, como la decisión de ser madre o no. Se trata del apoyo mutuo y colectivo de una generación que lucha contra todas las adversidades en busca de algo tan desafiante e inestable como la vida de un actor. Siento la necesidad de resaltar la flexibilidad de los formatos para descomponer momentos y ensamblarlos para contar una nueva historia. Se trata de distorsionar una imagen dada para crear algo único. Es exponer todas las vulnerabilidades a las que nos sometemos en busca de la estabilidad laboral que ansiamos profundamente. Soy directora, actriz, guionista y productora. A lo largo de mi carrera, he profundizado en diversas áreas para formarme. Actualmente, me interesa trabajar en piezas originales con un equipo de personas sensibles e inspiradoras. Estoy desarrollando proyectos cinematográficos para empresas de renombre y, al mismo tiempo, participó activamente en la industria audiovisual. Paralelamente, estoy cultivando mis propios proyectos como directora y guionista (como «Persiguiendo lo común», mi primera película larga). Mi objetivo siempre ha sido y seguirá siendo transmitir narrativas con la intención de crear una pieza cinematográfica sincera y auténtica que se atreva a reflejar la voz de una generación y sirva como un terreno fértil para forjar nuevos vínculos tanto a nivel local como internacional.
