Short Synopsis / Sinopsis Corta:

One night Tomás and his boyfriend Piter hide in the bathroom of a run-down bar after being attacked on the street. Locked there they feel safe but the tranquility is soon interrupted by a mysterious shadow that Tomás must face.

Una noche Tomás y su novio Piter se esconden en el baño de un bar de mala muerte luego de ser atacados en la calle. Encerrados creen estar seguros pero la tranquilidad pronto se verá interrumpida por una sombra misteriosa a la que Tomás deberá enfrentarse.

Director´s Biography / Biografía del Director:

JULIÁN LASSA ORTIZ

Animation Director (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1998). He’s been interested in the arts since his childhood, doing theater, analog photography, drawing, and painting. He then would study Animation Production and Direction. In 2019 he participated in the International Laboratory for animated projects APA LAB, with his graduation thesis project «Strass». «Strass» is his first short film as a director. His work includes illustration, animation, direction, and production.

Director y Animador (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1998). Desde niño se interesa en las artes, haciendo teatro, fotografía analógica, dibujo y pintura. Luego estudiará Cine de Animación. En 2019 participó del Laboratorio Internacional de Proyectos Animados APA LAB con su tesis de graduación “Strass”. “Strass» es su primer cortometraje como director. Su trabajo incluye ilustración, animación, dirección y producción.

Director’s Statement:

STRASS is born from the idea of “falling apart to assemble oneself for the first time”, of getting rid of the things that make us, but are not ours, and starting to build ourselves, slowly and for the first time. The short film alludes to tenderness, to look for and build our circles where we can give in to vulnerability. A place where we are allowed to make mistakes and can make the long and confusing process of knowing ourselves better. STRASS was a place of learning as a director but also in other aspects of my life. The biggest challenge was making it during the pandemic. In addition to the fact that it was my first film as a director, there were the production and personal challenges of the pandemic. Despite these complications, I am incredibly happy with the process and all the people that the project allowed me to meet.

SRASS nace de la idea de “romperse para armarse por primera vez”, de deshacerse de las cosas que nos construyen, pero que no nos son propias, y así comenzar a armarse uno mismo, lentamente y por primera vez. El cortometraje busca ante todo aludir a la ternura, a buscar y construir nuestros círculos donde podamos entregarnos a la vulnerabilidad. Un lugar donde se nos permita equivocarnos y podamos hacer el proceso largo y confuso de conocernos mejor. STRASS fue un espacio de aprendizaje tanto como director como en otros aspectos de mi vida. El desafío más grande fue realizarlo durante la pandemia. Al hecho de ser mi primera obra como director, se sumaron los desafíos de producción y personales propios de la pandemia. A pesar de esto, estoy increíblemente contento con el proceso y toda la gente que el proyecto me permitió conocer.
