Orione places the viewer in a land of contradictions. It starts from a particular situation and it challenges us to face what we would rather not see. Alejandro used to rob and he was killed in hands of the police after being betrayed by a mate. This film becomes a puzzle of visual and testimonial elements for the viewer to put together.
Orione transita el terreno de las contradicciones. Partiendo de un hecho particular nos enfrenta con situaciones que preferiríamos no ver. Alejandro robaba y la policía lo mató en un operativo, luego de ser delatado por un compañero. A través de un rompecabezas de elementos visuales y testimoniales nos sumergiremos en una historia sin solución.

Orione places the viewer in a land of contradictions. It starts from a particular situation and it challenges us to face what we would rather not see. Alejandro used to rob and he was killed in hands of the police after being betrayed by a mate. The story, built on a polyphonic structure, progresses through the different accounts from where the crime is construed and felt becoming a puzzle of visual and testimonial elements for the viewer to put together.
Orione nos sitúa en el terreno de las contradicciones. Lejos de querer emitir un juicio despliega diferentes puntos de vista acerca de los sucesos de la familia Robles sin privilegiar ninguno. Así nos enfrenta con la incomodidad que surge de ver diversas perspectivas sin tomar partido. Partiendo de un hecho particular, el documental muestra lo que preferiríamos no ver. A través de un rompecabezas de elementos visuales y testimoniales nos sumergiremos en una historia sin solución.
– Director´s Biography / Biografía del Director:
TOIA BONINO
Toia Bonino was born in Buenos Aires in 1975. She holds a Degree on Visual Arts from IUNA and also a Degree in Psychology from UBA. She graduated from Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano and from Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. In 2015, her filmography was part of the Experimental Cinema Exhibition ‘El Cine es Otra Cosa’ in MAMBA Museum. In 2012, Toia was part of the exhibition ‘Hors Pistes’ in Centre Pompidou, France. Her complete filmography was shown in the Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Mar del Plata. In 2011, she won the second place for the Nuevos Aportes award in the Salón Nacional. In 2009, she got the first price for Best Documentary Film, given by Página 12 in the Festival de La Mujer y el Cine, held in MALBA Museum.
Toia Bonino nació en Buenos Aires en 1975. Es Licenciada en Artes Visuales (IUNA) y Licenciada en psicología (UBA). Egresó de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano y de la Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. En el 2015 su filmografía es expuesta en el ciclo de cine experimental “El cine es otra cosa” en el MAMBA. En el 2012 participa en la muesta “Hors Pistes” en el Centro Pompidou. Su filmografía completa fue exhibida en el Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente de Mar del Plata. En el 2011 gana el segundo premio en el Salón Nacional en Nuevos Soportes. 2009 Premio al mejor documental otorgado por Página 12 en el Festival de La Mujer y el Cine realizado en el Malba.
– Director Statement:
The one thing that drove me to produce this documentary film is that this particular story about the Robles family introduces a major and complex issue. An issue that, with its own variations, it is recurrent in several of the many homes of Don Orione neighborhood.
Showing how each person, from their own world, their own intimacy and their way of living, proposes different versions for one same event. My intention is to reveal those various point of view with their own truths and contradictions, with no intention of favoring any of them in particular. There are many different characters in the community with varied viewpoints about Ale´s life and death.
On the one hand, I am interested in Don Orione’s social context. Its dimension, the type of buildings and the different lifestyles of its inhabitants. The construction of a particular set of rules, negotiations and norms, which stages the life and death of the many families who live there.
On the other hand, I am also driven by a more tragic perspective: this story allows us to reveal the constant and unsolvable tension between legality and illegality. I am curious about this conflict area where it is definitely not clear which position to take regarding the occurring events. I want to tell a provoking story that brings about questions that the viewer will interrogate and examine.
The documentary is divided in several sequences that are clearly differentiable for its aesthetic treatment. The images, which come from various sources and present different registers, are documentary shots. Although some of them are not exactly from this police case, they all belong to this same social environment.
Un aspecto que me interesó para la realización de este documental, es que esta historia particular, la de la familia Robles, permite mostrar la complejidad de una trama mayor, que con sus variantes se repite en algunas de las múltiples viviendas que componen el Barrio Don Orione.
Mostrar cómo cada persona, desde su mundo, su intimidad y su sistema de vida, propone distintas versiones sobre un hecho. Mi intención es no privilegiar ninguna versión, sino mostrar las diferentes perspectivas con sus propias verdades y sus propias contradicciones. Los relatos que los diferentes actores sociales hacen sobre la vida y la muerte de Ale.
Me interesa por un lado, el contexto social del Barrio Don Orione. Las dimensiones del mismo, el tipo de construcción y los diferentes modos de vida de sus habitantes. La construcción de una legalidad particular, negociaciones y reglamentaciones que organizan la vida y la muerte de las familias.
Por otro lado me interesa una perspectiva de corte trágico: la historia permite mostrar la tensión constante entre la legalidad e ilegalidad sin solución. Me interesa este espacio de conflicto, donde no se resuelve claramente qué posición tomar acerca de los sucesos. Contar una historia que abra en el espectador algunas preguntas, que interrogue y cuestione.
El documental está dividido en secuencias diferenciadas en cuanto a su tratamiento estético. Las imágenes utilizadas, provenientes de diferentes registros, son imágenes documentales y, aunque no todas pertenecen estrictamente a este caso, responden a los mismos espacios socio-ambientales.
