The story takes place in the «Milkily» ice cream factory where Goya, a young goat, works amazingly giving her milk like many others, ignorant to the outside world. Goya spends the day in an exhausting routine, locked in a cubicle while working on the production line until an accident with the extraction machine changes her life forever. In an attempt to escape from the guard for fear of being punished after that incident, Goya stumbles upon the big boss’ office. Who she thought was kind and considered turned out to be a greedy dwarf, wasteful of the money he obtains from the hard work of Goya and her companions. Unable to take the abuse any longer, Goya bravely lashes out at the boss and frees the other workers from the office control panel. This is how they managed to recover the fruits of their labor and leave behind the tyrannical chains that imprison them in the factory.

La historia toma lugar en la fábrica de helados “Milkily” donde Goya, una cabra joven, trabaja incansablemente dando de su leche como muchas otras, ignorantes al mundo exterior. Goya pasa el día en una rutina agotadora, encerrada en un cubículo, siendo ordeñada mientras trabaja en línea de producción, hasta que un accidente con la máquina extractora cambia su vida para siempre. En un intento de escapar del guardia por miedo a ser castigada después de aquel incidente, Goya se topa con la oficina del gran jefe, Don Halib Ghani. Quien pensó que era un hombre amable y considerado resultó ser un chivo enano, avaro y dispendioso del dinero que obtenía del duro trabajo de Goya y sus compañeras. Incapaz de seguir soportando el abuso, Goya arremete contra el jefe en un acto de valentía y libera a las demás trabajadoras desde el panel de control de la oficina. Así es como ellas logran recuperar los frutos de su labor y dejan atrás las tiránicas cadenas que las mantenían presas en la fábrica.

Director’s Statement / Declaraciones de la Directora:

Why is 43% of all wealth concentrated in the hands of 1% of the population? With each passing year, the rich get richer, and the poor get poorer. It seems like a slogan that is shouted against capitalism to discredit the wealth of certain people, but this fact becomes real and measurable every year. MILK 1% arose from this reality. It is a satirical story that encourages thinking about the unfair workings of the industrial labor system and the lack of morality of its leaders, things that are often overlooked when we enjoy their products. In 1% MILK, the problem of labor exploitation and wealth accumulation is portrayed through an analogy and symbolic character, each one representing a different group and social role. From the exploited worker to the greedy bourgeois and the corrupt policeman. The milk is extracted from the poor goats in the same way that the fruits of labor are snatched from the hands of the working class, hence the title. Generation Z and millennials tend to be the most frustrated by the flaws in the system we live in. The prominence of anti-capitalist ideas in this age range is overwhelming. That is why we seek to appeal to those sensitivities with the theme of the short, and encourage reflection and thought about the problems of the capitalist model.

Porqué el el 43% de toda la riqueza esté concentrada en manos del 1% de la población? Con cada año que pasa, los ricos cada vez más ricos, y los pobres cada vez más pobres. Parece una consigna que se grita contra el capitalismo para desprestigiar la riqueza de ciertas personas, pero este dato se hace real y medible cada año. 1% MILK surgió de esta realidad. Es un relato satírico que fomenta el pensamiento sobre los funcionamientos injustos del sistema laboral industrial y la falta de moral de sus dirigentes, cosas que muchas veces pasamos por alto cuando disfrutamos de sus productos. En 1% MILK, el problema de la explotación laboral y acumulación de riqueza se retrata a través de una analogía y personajes simbólicos en el corto, cada uno representando un grupo y rol social distinto, desde el trabajador explotado, al burgués avaro y el policía comprado. La leche se extrae de las pobres cabras de la misma forma que los frutos del trabajo se arrebatan de las manos de la clase trabajadora, de allí proviene el título. La generación Z y los millenials tienden a ser la que se siente más frustrada por las fallas del sistema en el que vivimos. La prominencia de las ideas anticapitalistas en este rango etario es abrumadora. Es por eso que buscamos apelar a esas sensibilidades con la temática del corto, y fomentar la reflexión y el pensamiento sobre los problemas del modelo capitalista.
