– Director´s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:

This is the story of Juana and Lucas, brother and sister who do not know each other. They grew up together in the same house and lived together for years, but they do not know each other. Their bond of brotherhood was affected by the illness of their mother, Elvira. A disease that cannot be seen cannot be touched or identified. But it’s something you can feel. At first, the only title that fitted was the one of a «complicated mother». Most of the time the kids did not understand what was happening. Sudden changes in mood, anger without reason or explanation, lies and double speeches. Yes, it was impossible to understand. And therefore, to share and seek help. How can you fix something if you don’t even know what’s broken? This is how Juana and Lucas ended up isolating themselves in their own worlds. Small worlds, holding on to the routine with the sole objective of surviving one more day. And that distance that exists today between Juana and Lucas is a consequence of that. From that climate in which they grew up, that environment plagued by ups and downs and uncertainty. Over time the complicated mother’s title changed. Elvira had bipolar disorder. This short film seeks to reflect on family ties. Especially on those that are built in the framework of a dysfunctional family, a family that is crossed by an illness. I find it interesting to reflect on how an illness whether is physical or mental, not only affects the person who carries it but also changes lives and affects the links that orbit that person.
