A grieving widow must defend her ranch against a series of mysterious attacks on her animals, to prove the landlord that she deserves to inherit her husband’s position.
Una afligida viuda debe defender su rancho contra una serie de ataques misteriosos a sus animales, para probar al dueño de la estancia que merece el puesto heredado de su esposo.
– Synopsis / Sinopsis:
This is the third attack that hens receive. María, a hard-working widow, must stop them to defend her work and her child’s home before Mr. Funes, the landlord. She tries hard, but nothing seems to go right. Dardo, the peon, far from helping her, seems to be an obstacle or a threat. The attacks persist, and the lack of solutions, helplessness and despair, drive Maria to her own limit.
Este ya es el tercer ataque que recibe el gallinero. María, una sacrificada viuda, debe detenerlos para defender su trabajo y el hogar de su niño ante el Señor Funes, el dueño. Ella se esfuerza, pero nada parece salir bien. Dardo, el peón, lejos de ayudarla, parece ser un obstáculo o una amenaza. Los ataques persisten, y la falta de soluciones, la impotencia y la desesperación, conducen a María hacia su propio límite.

JORDAN ORLANDO
Argentinian / Italian
He studied film at CIEVYC and ENERC. His professional path was between cinema and advertising. In 2012, its screenplay, EL APRENDIZ, won the First Feature competition at INCAA, then at the 31st Mar del Plata International Film Festival the film won the BEST ARGENTINE FILM Award. He lives in Italy, working as a screenwriter, script doctor, and director.
Estudió cine en el CIEVYC y en la ENERC. Su camino profesional se dio entre el cine y la publicidad. En 2012, su guión, EL APRENDIZ, ganó el concurso de Opera Prima en INCAA, luego en el 31° Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata la película ganó el Premio a MEJOR PELÍCULA ARGENTINA. Vive en Italia, trabajando como guionista, script doctor, y director.
– Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
The final images of this story, and the words that narrate them, appeared to me in a dream, years ago. I woke up in the early morning with the inescapable need to write them down. While the narrative structure is classic and could be rationalized clearly, there is an aura of mystery throughout the film, something that is and is not at the same time as unquestionable as the experience of living, and the same time as vague as the ephemeral of dreams. I always felt that this was an inherited story, a story that settled on me with the intention of leaving a record, of making itself visible. I was just a medium. I think of But deliver us from evil as a fresco of the desolation of the last bastion of the community (the family), against the idea of capitalist productivity that overwhelms everything. The cell of every community is the family, and its central nucleus is the mother-child bond. When this bond is broken, the family disintegrates. BDUFE is the story of a woman grappling between two logics: that of capital that threatens her other logic: maternal, and the consequences of alienation and, consequently, of tragedy, which can result when one allows oneself to be carried away by machinery. This is why this story does not occur in any particular place, under any particular date. It is also the story of a woman who takes the place of a man (her absent husband), in a task historically associated with masculine strength. It is the story of how the macho discourse marks the relationship of the bond.
Las imágenes finales de esta historia, y las palabras que las narran, se me aparecieron en un sueño, años atrás. Desperté en la madrugada con la necesidad ineludible de escribirlas. Si bien la estructura narrativa es clásica y podría racionalizarse con claridad, hay un halo de misterio a lo largo de todo el cortometraje, algo que está y no está al mismo tiempo, tan indudable como la experiencia de estar viviendo algo, y al mismo tiempo tan vago como lo efímero de los sueños. Siempre sentí que esta fue una historia heredada, una historia que se posó en mí con la intención de dejar registro, de hacerse visible. Yo sólo fui un médium. Pienso “Y líbranos del mal” como un fresco de la desolación del último bastión de la comunidad (la familia), contra la idea de productividad capitalista que avasalla todo. La célula de toda comunidad es la familia, y su núcleo central es el vínculo madre-hijo, cuando este vínculo se rompe, la familia se disgrega. YLDM es el relato de una mujer lidiando entre dos lógicas: la del capital que amenaza su otra lógica: la maternal, y las consecuencias de alienación y, consecuentemente, de tragedia, que pueden tener como resultado cuando uno se deja arrastrar por la maquinaria. Es por esto que esta historia no ocurre en ningún lugar determinado, bajo ninguna fecha determinada. También es la historia de una mujer que ocupa el lugar de un hombre (su ausente marido), en una tarea que históricamente se asocia con la fuerza masculina. Es la historia de cómo el discurso machista marca la relación del vínculo.
