Director Statement / Declaraciones del Director:

The idea behind this animated short film came from the necessity of telling a story which shows what happens to us in daily life and how we dedicate our lives to useless tasks. We wanted to deal with this from a distant point of view, different to our reality in order to develop the plot better. The story setting is exactly one hundred years in the past, and it’s geographically in the antipodes of our country, a place with a different idiosyncrasy to reflect an issue that involves all humans and is often repeated through time. “Get out” is science fiction tale full of analogies and symbols that reflect actual problems such as alienation, exploitation and men superficiality. The main character is followed by a camera along the first minute’s initiation journey, which is used to explain the changes he goes through. As a slave that breaks his chains and obtains freedom in Plato’s cave allegory, the character finds escaping from his own cave is fruitless, and his attempts to escape his misery only worsen the situation. There’s a strong contrast between secondary characters; those who represent the vast range of options we found every day. The scavenger crow which flies freely against the noble canary that lives in a cage; the impetuous child and the sick old man; the foreman and the workmen, life and death, cowardice and courage, love and hate. These are elements we found on our daily life and also surround the protagonist’s life. The clock is a motif which represents the cruelty of the passing of time. Time is a ferocious tyrant depicted as clocks or as a donkey grinding the stones on the mill. In addition, time is also what makes the narration advance towards its resolution. From the 5th century onwards, as the last phrase of the movie describes, we are aware of what is happening to us, but it’s almost impossible to get out of this wheel of fate. That’s what this short story is about how to “Get out”.
