Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:

THE SON is based on the story “A protective mother by the brilliant Argentine writer Guillermo Martínez, included in the book “A Repulsive Happiness”. This phrase “A repulsive happiness” summarizes one of the most disturbing aspects of the film. A story where the natural becomes strange and the daily becomes fantastic until we are perplexed in front of the sinister. Lorenzo, a bohemian artist in his fifties, feels that life gave him a new opportunity when he meets his beautiful young Norwegian wife, Sigrid. This time he might be the father he wasn’t on his first marriage. But something does not work and we find Lorenzo prisoner, altered and on the edge of madness. The tension to solve this radical transformation of Lorenzo at the different temporal levels of the narrative puts everything the viewer believes to know from the perspective of different prisms, up to a surprising and anguishing third act. Ambiguity leads us to question whether what Lorenzo says is true or his altered perception of reality.
