  • Synopsis / Sinopsis:

Journalist Mariana Carbajal reveals the reality of women in El Salvador, where one of the strictest abortion prohibition laws in the world is in force. Criminalized in all its causes since 1998, the persecution and imprisonment of poor women facing an obstetric emergency are a constant. In the voice of Cinthia, Teodora, and Evelyn, victims of this network of violence, a question is intuited: What are the chances of being free when the State does not guarantee the right to life?

Every time I re-watch Judgment Bodies, I am deeply moved by the stories of the women we interview, on one hand, those whose rights are violated by an unjust law, and on the other, that feminist plot that is being woven to get them out of jail. Without this committed and loving activism, dozens of women would continue to be imprisoned, and forgotten, in the women’s prisons of El Salvador. Amplifying those voices is what motivated me to film this documentary.
