Barrio Modelo

In 1968 my aunt abandoned her bourgeois life to write a detailed narration of a social housing created by the socialist cooperative El Hogar Obrero. Her novel Barrio Modelo, more than a text about being a cooperative member, is a personal account of someone who decides to make writing the center of her life.

  • Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:

This story is the continuation of my aunt’s unfinished novel about a cooperative building in the sixties. Even though at first I wanted to highlight and showcase our family literature, in time the documentary became an investigation into the identity of a woman I remember nothing about. Now, more than half a century later, I meet the characters of her novel, hoping to close a circle or expand it in an unfinished spiral.
