Fabian puts together shows at a party room, one of them is a Serrat tribute act, in which he is the performer on stage. Fabian is frustrated because the belly dancer is the clients’ number one choice. This time, he’ll do whatever it takes to be picked out, even if he has to play dirty against his colleague and test his moral limits.
Fabián ofrece los shows de un salón de fiestas, entre los que se encuentra un tributo al cantante Serrat, que él mismo realiza. Harto de que siempre contraten a la odalisca, esta vez hará lo que sea para que lo elijan, aunque deba jugarle sucio a su colega y poner en juego sus límites morales.
- Long Synopsis / Sinopsis Larga:
Fabian manages a party room, he’s a natural-born salesman. He puts together an array of shows, offering numbers that go from magicians and dancers to singers. One of the bits is a Serrat tribute act, in which he is the performer on stage. Eugenia, his new client, books a belly dancer for her father’s birthday. Fabian is frustrated with never being the one chosen and he will do everything in his power to make her change her mind, even if that means resorting to unprincipled techniques to discredit his fellow coworker. Then, things take an unexpected turn and he is faced with his own limitations.
Fabián atiende un salón de fiestas, es un vendedor de pura cepa. Ofrece shows de magos, bailarines y cantantes, entre los que se encuentra un tributo a Serrat, que él mismo realiza. Eugenia, la nueva clienta, contrata una odalisca para el cumpleaños de su padre. Fabián, cansado de que nunca lo elijan, hará lo imposible para que cambie de opinión, aunque deba recurrir a técnicas inescrupulosas para desacreditar a su compañera. Pero todo toma un giro inesperado y se enfrenta con sus propios límites.

DIEGO CRESPO
Diego Crespo (Buenos Aires, 1977) studied journalism at TEA. Soon after, he started a career as a news producer working with several TV channels (Channel 9, Channel 13, TN). At the same time, he took screenwriting and dramaturgy courses with Mauricio Kartún, among others, which led to screenwriting jobs with TV networks such as Infinito, Discovery Channel, Playboy, Fox Sports, Dory Media, Paka Paka, Disney Channel, Claxson, Tevé Pública. Then he would take on cinematography and direction. He directed both documentary and fictional series for History Channel, Canal Encuentro, TecTV, Fox Life, DeporTV. He wrote and directed his first documentary feature film “Counter Ball” in 2016 with INCAA support.
Diego Crespo (Buenos Aires, 1977) estudió periodismo en TEA y se desempeñó como productor periodístico en Canal 9, Canal 13, TN. Realizó talleres de guión y dramaturgia con Mauricio Kartún y se desarrolló como guionista para: Infinito, Discovery Channel, Playboy, Fox Sports, Dory Media, Paka Paka, Disney Channel, Claxson, Canal 7. Como director realizó series documentales y de ficción para History Channel, Canal Encuentro, TecTV, Fox Life, DeporTV. Con apoyo del INCAA guionó y dirigió los documentales “Contrapelota” y “Dolores”.
- Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
Apart from my current work in the audiovisual field, I’m also a musician. For a long time, my job was to play drums with bands of my own and others, as a session musician. One of the bands I played with was a tribute band to Antonio Jobim. I got the chance to see that world from the inside, as a tribute musician, I even played with a tribute band to Joaquin Sabina. I’m obsessed with the event, the fandom, the party rooms and the performers who impersonate and “pay homage” while concealing an extreme, fabulous, almost implausible, devotion. Thanks to my documentary work, I met with a singer who pays tribute to Serrat: German Bermudez. He is also a voice talent, a teacher, and a referee in the National B Division of AFA, the Argentine football league. He is raucous and docile, a singer and a remarkable impersonator, a natural-born seller, and his potential for acting is immense. His persona led me to create a character custom made for his knowledge and abilities. I’ve worked with non-actors several times, and the results are always positive. I’m fascinated by the process of impersonation, the effort and attentiveness involved in looking alike, in portraying someone else, becoming them even if only for a short, alienated while. I find appealing all which lessens in this copying process making room for a new “product,” similar to the original, resemblant… almost. That’s why, knowing this world first hand, I attempt to portray this story, to bring to the screen a fraction of all of which I find thick and subtle at the same time, the one-sided battle that Fabian brings on Baasima, the belly dancer.
Más allá de mi trabajo actual en el campo audiovisual, también soy músico y gran parte de mi vida trabajé de eso, tocando la batería en bandas propias, y también como músico cesionista, entre ellas una banda tributo al brasilero Antonio Jobim. Viví desde adentro ese mundo, el del tributero, e incluso alguna vez toqué con un tributo a Joaquín Sabina. Me obsesiona el evento y su público, el salón de fiestas, el imitador que “homenajea” y a su vez solapa un fanatismo extremo y fabuloso, casi inverosímil. El trabajo documental hizo que me cruzara con un cantante que tributaba a Serrat: Germán Bermúdez. Además, es locutor, profesor y árbitro de la Primera B de AFA, en el fútbol argentino. Estridente y dócil, cantante e imitador notable, vendedor nato y con enorme potencial actoral, su persona me llevó a diseñar un personaje que se ajustará a su medida, a sus conocimientos y cualidades. He trabajado con no actores en variadas ocasiones, siempre con resultados positivos. Me fascinan las imitaciones, el esfuerzo y la delicadeza por parecerse a otro, representarlo, ser ese otro más no sea un rato, alienado siempre. Lo que se degrada en ese proceso de copia me resulta atractivo, brindando un “producto” nuevo, similar al original, parecido… casi. Por eso, conociendo ese ambiente en primera persona, es que intento reproducir esta historia, llevar a la pantalla apenas una porción de todo aquello que me parece grueso y sutil a la vez, esa batalla unilateral que desata Fabián con la odalisca Baasima.

Guillermo Ruiz (Villa Mercedes, San Luis, 1976) is a journalism graduate of TEA (1999). He has worked as a researcher, news producer, and executive producer in several shows and documentary series. He has also worked as a screenwriter and content developer for national and international networks such as Nat Geo, Discovery Channel, Fox Sports, History Channel, Infinito, TELEFE, Canal 13, Tevé Pública, TN, Canal Encuentro, TecTV, DeporTV. In 2016, he wrote and produced the documentary feature film “Counter Ball” with INCAA support.
Guillermo Ruiz (Villa Mercedes, San Luis, 1976) es egresado de la carrera de periodismo en TEA (1999). Se desempeña como investigador, productor periodístico y productor ejecutivo en diversos programas y series de TV, de corte documental. También es guionista y desarrollador de formatos para señales nacionales e internacionales como Nat Geo, Discovery Channel, Fox Sports, History Channel, Infinito, TELEFE, Canal 13, Tevé Pública, TN, Canal Encuentro, TecTV, DeporTV. Con el apoyo del INCAA, en 2016 escribió y produjo el documental “Contrapelota”.
