During the 40s, in a famous box stadium, an important fight is going to take place, but one of the opponents disappears. A young man makes presence to face his idol and defeat him in his own game.
Durante los años 40, en un famoso estadio de boxeo se va a disputar una importante pelea, pero uno de los contrincantes desaparece. Un joven se hace presente para enfrentar a su ídolo y vencerlo en su propio juego.

Buenos Aires, 1946. In an important stadium is going to take place the farewell fight of «El Ganso» Acosta, one of the biggest boxing champions in the country. Shortly before the start of the fight, his opponent disappears. Vicente, an inexperienced fan of the honoree shows up as a replacement to face his idol despite all the obstacles that the business would put on him.
Buenos Aires, 1946. En un importante estadio de boxeo se está por celebrar la despedida de uno los campeones de box más grandes del país. Faltando poco para el comienzo de la pelea, su rival desaparece. Vicente, un inexperto fanático del homenajeado se postula en reemplazo para enfrentar a su ídolo pese a todos los obstáculos que el ambiente le interponga.
– Synopsis / Sinopsis:
Buenos Aires, 1946. In an important stadium is going to take place the farewell fight of «El Ganso» Acosta, one of the biggest boxing champions in the country. With only a few hours left before the fight, his opponent disappears, giving place to the search for a new fighter to carry out the show. Vicente, a young man who introduces himself as a fan of «El Ganso» shows up on time and is accepted for the fight. Despite his clumsiness and inexperience, he is determined to face his idol, with little concern of the rules of the place and the people who would stand in his way.
Buenos Aires, 1946. En un importante estadio de boxeo se está por disputar la pelea que obrará como despedida del «Ganso» Acosta, uno de los campeones de box más grandes del país. Faltando muy pocas horas para el comienzo de la pelea, su rival desaparece, dando lugar a la búsqueda de un nuevo luchador para cumplir con el show. Vicente, un joven que se presenta como fanático del «Ganso» se postula sobre la hora y es aceptado para luchar. Pese a su torpeza e inexperiencia, él está muy decidido de que quiere enfrentarse a su ídolo, importándole poco los códigos del ambiente y las personas que se interpongan en su camino.

GERARDO TASSAN
Gerardo Tassan is an actor, writer and director. He took his first steps in 2012, when he began his acting training. Later he started to write short stories and theater plays. It was in 2016 when he ventured into self-taught directing with his web series «Muy Bien Gerry!», which also writes and stars and is currently in the pre-production stage of the second half of the shooting.
Gerardo Tassan es actor, escritor y director. Dio sus primeros pasos en el año 2012, cuando comenzó su formación actoral. Posteriormente se empezó a desempeñar como escritor de relatos y obras cortas. Fue en 2016 cuando incursionó de forma autodidacta en la dirección con su serie web “Muy Bien Gerry!”, que también escribe y protagoniza y actualmente se encuentra en la etapa de pre-producción de la segunda mitad del rodaje.
– Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
«The Pugilist» is a representation of the absurd that takes place in an environment of heavy commandments. From the start, it immerses itself in a search for a nonsensical tone to confront the built-in technicalities of professional sport. Then, that hint of absurdity tries to stay present throughout the film with the objective of lifting some of the weight from the scenes, dramatic as they may be, and regardless of how the characters may remain unaware of it. It’s about exploiting the humor that could be present in any given situation, under any context and yet, without dismissing whatever the characters may be feeling. This way, the short film offers an uncomfortable walk between ever-changing climates. «The Pugilist» starts like a comedy sports film, continues like a thriller and ends poetically. Which aspect is the most outstanding, is up to the viewer to decide.
“El Púgil” es la representación de un absurdo instalado en un ambiente de pesados mandamientos. De entrada, se sumerge en la búsqueda de un tono disparatado que le haga frente a los arraigados tecnicismos del deporte profesional. Luego, ese matiz de absurdo intenta mantenerse siempre presente con el objetivo de quitarle peso a cualquier escena por más dramática que sea y aunque los personajes lo pasen por alto. Se trata de explotar el humor que puede existir en cualquier situación, bajo cualquier contexto y sin despreciar lo que realmente les pasa a los personajes. De este modo, el cortometraje ofrece un incómodo paseo entre diversos climas. “El Púgil” nace como una comedia dramática deportiva, avanza como un thriller y finaliza como una poesía. El matiz que más se decida destacar, está en cada uno.
