«El mundo es un escenario» is an anthology film. Tree stories where the characters hesitate between fiction and reality. Whereas some play to role-playing games, or invent fictions, others experience an emotion of unreality. All of them are looking for stronger emotions.
«El mundo es un escenario» es una película de sketches, una serie de varios relatos pequeños. Tres historias en las cuales los personajes están dudando entre la ficción y la realidad. Algunos juegan roles, inventan ficciones, otros simplemente tienen una sensación de irrealidad y les parece que algo les hace falta… Todos están buscando emociones más fuertes o más reales, y todos se vuelcan en una surrealidad.
– Synopsis / Sinopsis:
This film is both comical and melancholic. It treats about the contemporary obsession for authenticity, the injunction to experience « strong » and « true » moments. In a goofy or naïve way, the characters are surrendering to that necessity by making out fake situations. Others are detached, so detached that they will have the feeling to be dropped on the ground without being part of it. All of them will experience life as the stage of their activities.
«El mundo es un escenario» es a la vez divertido y melancólico. Trata de una obsesión contemporánea por la autenticidad, un requerimiento por vivir cosas ‘verdaderas’ y ‘fuertes’. Tras una manera inocente y loquita, los personajes se van a someter a esa necesidad fabricando situaciones falsas. Otros estarán separados, tan separados que tendrán la sensación de estar dejados en la tierra sin ser parte ella. Todos verán en la vida el decorado de sus actividades.

JULIETTE DOMINATI
Juliette Dominati (1990, Paris) is a film and theater director, a visual artist and a performer. Graduated from the National Art School of Paris in 2017, she develops her work in the field of installation, that include paintings, videos, performances, and all kind of fragments. «All the world’s a stage» is her first short film. Her productions play with the overlap zones between reality and fiction.
– Director’s Statement / Declaraciones del Director:
Like many children, I played role-playing games. We would perform ourselves the characters we invented, or we would lend our voices to our barbies, playmobiles, figurines. What were we imitating? The adults? -what we would get off them? Or were they characters of films that we had seen? In the end, in our children’s head, what made the difference between a film’s adult and a real-life’s adult? Truth from fake. The game from non-game. Fiction. And each time one would say « pause », it would stop. We would discuss the scene that we were making, as theater directors would do. « Un-pause », the game would start again and real-life would revert to a set. Later on, in Fine Arts grand school, I began to invent « banal choreographies », made for the street, the metro, home, where simple gestures, as opening an umbrella, dropping something, became fictional. It was all pre-written, rigged, for the fake.
Al igual que muchos chicos, jugué a juegos de roles. Nosotros mismos interpretábamos los personajes inventados, o dábamos voz de nuestras Barbies, Playmobiles, figurinas… Qué imitábamos? A los adultos? Lo que entendemos de ellos? O eran unos personajes de películas que habíamos vistos? Y más allá, en nuestras cabezas de chicos, cuál era la diferencia entre un adulto en una película y un adulto en la vida real? La verdad de lo falso. El juego del ‘no juego’. La ficción. Cada vez que decíamos “pido”, el juego se paraba. Charlábamos sobre la escena que actuábamos, como un director en un set. “Ya no hay pido”, volvía el juego y la vida real se convertía otra vez en un decorado. Más tarde, empecé a imaginarme unas «coreografías banales» hechas por la calle, en el subte, en la casa; donde unos gestos sencillos: abrir el paraguas o dejar caer un objeto convirtiéndose en gestos de ficción. Era previsto, trucho, falso. Una ficción.
